Congratulations: Research, Publications and Awards:March 1, 2007 Why do birds migrate? Contrary to the textbooks, birds don't go south just for the tropical fruit and balmy weather. It's an issue of food security, according to new research by UA ecologists. (Alice Boyle 's research featured at UA News) Joanna Masel has been selected as an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow. This extremely competitive fellowship carries an award of $45,000. Dr. Masel will be using the award to continue her work using mechanistic analytical models grounded in theoretical population genetics to explore fundamental questions in evolution, including evolutionary capacitance.
