Campus Wireless Requirements - You will need a NetID and your PC must be up to date: Overview and Details of the UA plan.  And see our Network Resources page for links to set your Mac or PC up.

Computer Hardware Problems - the University now has an on-campus Repair Facility which is also an authorized Apple and Gateway repair depot.

The CATS computer store in the Student Union has a new web page and be sure to see the UA Sitelicense web site for free or lower cost software.  Call CATS at 621-8874 for lower cost Licenses for Microsoft, Adobe, Macromedia and other applications.  Or see the new Site License On-Line Order page.

Network Resources and Troubleshooting - if suddenly your ethernet connection isn't working, take a look at the network tips page to get back on the net.

Take control of Windows - let us review your machine's security and install the free PC Startup Cop to control just what programs are allowed to start up when you log on.
And for an excellent free Registry cleaner that also cleans up other junk on your PC, see: CCleaner

"CCleaner is a system optimization and privacy tool.It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. It's fast and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :) " Download from: FileHippo
Protect your computer - see the Security page for details
    Sophos Anti-Virus
    - is free software provided by the University.  We strongly recommend that all machines connected to the campus ethernet system have this essential utility installed.   You can download the latest Version 6, includingremote update software, from the UA Sitelicense web site.  See the Sophos website for useful instructions on setting up your scanning options.

Note that, as installed, Sophos will report viruses it finds, but does not delete them.  See the Configuration section within the program to change this.

XP users: take advantage of Microsoft's free File Syncronizing Tool.  Synchtoy automates the managing of files between two computers.  It is the best tool for copying, backing up, moving and synchronizing multiple sets of folders via easy to make scripts.   It's well designed and quite fast with a useful help file.

Networked Printers - There are two fast network printers available to department members - a B&W LaserJet in the BSW 305 mail room, always available, and a color LaserJet in the main office BSW 310, available 8-5.

See the setup instructions for both these high speed, duplexing printers at Network Printers Setup page

Campus Poster Printing - There is a high quality poster printing service in the UMC complex available to all UA departments. It's staffed by two full time graphic arts types with long experience in this printing arena. They offer 24 hour turnaround and currently charge $4.75 /sq. ft. or $6.30 /sq. ft. for vinyl. They use an Epson 44" archival quality printer with premium/heavy stock and offer layout services if needed. They can take most Mac or PC file formats - PowerPoint, pdf, Illustrator and Corel Draw being the most popular.

See their web pages explaining the service and a form to submit jobs/files remotely.
Or contact BioMedical Communications, room 3404 in the Arizona Health Services Center, 626-7343 directly.

Although there are many alternatives to creating web pages - many of them outlined in the Web Design section, you might consider trying out a free, open source editor called Nvu, available for all platforms.  It has all the tools you will need to create html pages and includes a simple Sites Manager so that you can work directly on the web server that hosts your pages.  We can help you get set up to use this tool on the EEB web server.
    1.  See the Nvu web site to download and install the program
    2.  See the SiteWizard site for a tutorial on using Nvu
