RESEARCH
INTERESTS
The ultimate goal of biology is to understand how variation at
the genomic level translates into phenotypic variation within and
between species. My current and past research aims at understanding
how nucleotide variation is partitioned within and among species
and how this partitioning is affected by genomic context and natural
history. For my PhD I worked on the genetics of speciation in Oryctolagus
cuniculus (European rabbit), by comparing patterns of introgression
at different loci (namely, mtDNA, Y and X-linked loci) across a
hybrid zone. For my post doctoral work I am taking a similar approach
to understand the genetics of speciation in house mice. I am assembling
a large polymorphism data set in three species of house mice (Mus
domesticus, M. musculus and M. castaneus).
We will use this data set to compare levels and patterns of polymorphism
and divergence (i) at autosomal, X and Y-linked and mitochondrial
loci and, (ii) in autosomal regions of the genome with significant
differences in recombination rates.
